Mat, I've just finished an oil change on my Prado which has taken nearly 3 hours!...
Ok, some background info- It's a 2003 V6 Petrol Grande about 180k on the clock.
First time it's shown any sign of issues was last week whent the oil light started flicking on... I checked the oil and there was no issue there.. level was fine...What then??.
I had heard of "Sludge" on engines with a few 100k's on them having some oil pickup issues and so I decided to drop the sump and have a squiz.
Low an behold there was 1/2 a stubby of sludge sitting in the bottom of the sump and my oil-pickup was also caked with sludge.
So I pulled it all out and gwave a good clean. I changed filter and filled her up with new oil.
Question here if I can is; Is this due to the Aluminimum block? or age or Oil or combination of all?
Reason why I ask about the aluminimum block is that I have pulled steel engines apart with more K's then this and there was no where near as much sludge nor was it so firmly caked onto the internal wall.
Any ideas?
Also you mentioned you changed your oil- but are you running a petrol or Diesel?
