If you’re looking for optimum quality in your suspension, these may well be right up your alley.
Koni has been a name in the suspension industry since Jesus played full-back for the Nazareth under-nines. They’re synonymous with high-quality, top-shelf shock absorbers for all sorts of motor vehicles, with the list of racing winners that have Konis bolted to the shock towers too long to list.
If you’re looking for optimum quality in your suspension, these may well be right up your alley. They offer two off-road based shocks, the Raid and the Heavy Track.
The Heavy Track are an adjustable shock that allow the damping characteristics to be tuned to the conditions you drive in, and Koni reckon that they only use quality seals and that they’re designed for an exceptionally long lifespan. The engineers have designed them specifically to be what they think is the perfect compromise between on-road handling and off-road ability.
The Raid units are slightly different. Utilising only a twin-tube construction (Heavy Tracks use a variety of constructions in different models), the oil capacity has been doubled for greater thermal efficiency for those stretches of endless corrugations. The outer tube is also an impressive 2.5mm thick, so the damper function is guaranteed, even in the case of rock damage to the outer tube.
They have a truly chunky 42mm bore and 70mm diameter, and feature 360 degree welds on the eyes and pins for superior strength. There’s a progressive rebound stop valve and extra security on full compression in case of any inadvertent “I just jumped me car” incidents too. There’s also the ability to adjust the internal rebound forces to tune your shocks to your spring rates, so the life span is maximised.
