If you’re ready to test your mettle off road, you’ll want to know about the professionally-designed, all-terrain experience that is The Spirit of Amarok. This May, VW Australia are giving you and a mate the chance to tackle a series of 4WD activities including speed tests and technical 4WD terrain challenges in, you guessed it, a hard-working Amarok.

Show us what you gotMr 4X4 himself, Pat Callinan, is a proud partner of VW for the second year running. He’ll be on hand at the course in Werribee, Vic with tips and advice for each of the challenges. Pat and Sarel Daniel van der Merwe – also known as ‘SuperVan’ – have decades of 4X4 experience between them and collaborated on the design of the Australian course, ensuring the Spirit of Amarok challenges were as gut-wrenching and adrenalising as possible. That way, when the top team on each day is chosen, they’ll know the teams are up to the challenge of representing Australia at the international finals of the Spirit of Amarok in South Africa.

If you’re wondering whom to thank for opportunities like this, look to SuperVan, because he’s the reason they exist. Ten years ago he created the Spirit of Africa trophy to provide opportunities for ‘average’ drivers to test their off-roading skills in a competitive environment.

prize_bg[2]If you enter this competition (why wouldn’t you?) and you’re lucky enough to have your name drawn, expect four-wheel drive challenges over three days in May. On each day during the Spirit of Amarok challenge, a winning team will be chosen to represent Australia. These six lucky devils will be sent on an all-expenses paid trip to South Africa for the international finals of The Spirit of Africa – The Ultimate Test Drive.

Similar to the Melbourne rounds, the course (designed by SuperVan, obviously) will run over three days and consist of competitive off-roading challenges alongside the best teams from Africa and South America.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, click the link below to enter the competition and remember: luck gets you in; skill keeps you there.

  • Rather than see images of some Korean built Amrok/Colorado/Ranger sliding through a corner ripping up the environment how about promoting responsible off roading and environmental care.
Soon the countryside will be littered with these low equity vehicles when they stop in the middle of nowhere and can’t be repaired because the cheap Chinese electronics failed. They are the Lada Niva’s of the future.
