Lifesaver have been making some top-quality products for some time. When we were sent a new Cube, we just had to go and test it out.

We’ve had plenty of rain over the last few weeks at the Pat Callinan’s 4X4 Adventures HQ over the last couple of weeks, so it didn’t take a long walk into the bush to find a nicely rank, dark puddle of mud. This would put it to the test.

To make matters worse, we dredged up plenty of mud and chunks out of the ground before we took a bit sample, and poured it into the cube.

The most important part of the Lifesaver Cube is the filter, which can go down to 15 microns. The smallest known virus is polio, which is 25 microns. which it will catch with an efficiency rate of 99.999%.

Pour water in one side, and force it through the filter by pumping away for a minute or so. When there is enough pressure built up, release the tap on the other side and see clean, clear water trickle out.

So, yes. The Lifesaver Cube works. The previously rancid, brown water, thick with all sorts of things came out crystal-clear on the other side. And it tasted allright, too!

The Lifesaver Cube costs $298, and can be bought from www.lifesaverbottleaus.com/
