ARB, the most iconic Australian 4X4 accessory manufacturer, has hit a significant milestone, celebrating its 50th anniversary. From humble beginnings in a Melbourne driveway, the company has grown into a global powerhouse, renowned for top-notch build quality, reliability, and innovation in off-road gear.
It all started in 1975 when Tony Brown returned from an expedition to Cape York disappointed with the durability of his gear. Determined to address this shortcoming, Brown began handcrafting bull bars and roof racks at home. This initiative would eventually revolutionise the off-road equipment market, laying the foundation for what ARB is today.
Throughout the decades, ARB has consistently set new benchmarks. In 1987, the launch of their iconic Air Locker significantly enhanced traction capabilities for 4X4ers. The acquisition of Old Man Emu suspension in 1988 further solidified their reputation for comprehensive vehicle solutions. ARB continued to blend innovation with functionality, releasing products like the Sahara Bar in 2000 and, more recently, the BP-51 suspension system and the new Zenith bar.
Today, ARB’s reach is truly global, with products available in more than 100 countries. Strategic expansions and acquisitions in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East have played a significant role in broadening the brand’s footprint internationally. Recent innovations, including the Altitude Rooftop Tent, the robust Brushless Air Compressor, and the Earth Camper, showcase the brand’s commitment to pushing boundaries in the every direction they can.
Yet, ARB’s legacy is not merely about its products. The company’s growth and success have been significantly driven by the experiences and trust of the 4X4 community. In marking its half-century milestone, ARB has launched celebratory content on its YouTube channel, sharing epic adventures and behind-the-scenes insights.
With fifty years already under its belt, ARB looks well-positioned to continue leading and innovating in the off-road industry for decades to come.
