Ford Australia has recently commenced the delivery of the iconic Ford F-150 to customers. It marks a pivotal moment in the Australian 4X4 market. This event was celebrated with an exclusive tour of the RMA Automotive facility in Mickleham, near Melbourne, where these exceptional vehicles undergo their transformation into right-hand drive configurations.
An Insightful Facility Tour
The RMA Automotive facility represents a remarkable feat in engineering and manufacturing. Here, Ford F-150s, originally manufactured in Detroit, United States, undergo a comprehensive re-manufacturing process. This facility is capable of re-manufacturing up to 20 F-150s per day, utilizing an assembly line with 65 individual stations. The process requires approximately 22 working hours over a span of three days for each vehicle, demonstrating a commitment to precision and quality.
Test Driving the F-150
A select group of customers were afforded the unique opportunity to test drive the F-150. They experienced firsthand the vehicle’s exceptional capability, comfort, and renowned ‘Built Ford Tough’ quality. This experience provided valuable insights into the vehicle’s performance, particularly in the context of Australian driving conditions.
Rigorous Re-manufacturing Process
The re-manufacturing process at the facility is thorough and uncompromising. Approximately 500 new parts are used, and key systems such as steering, climate control, lighting, instrument panel, and software are recalibrated to meet the specific requirements of the Aussie market.
Strategic Location and Collaboration
The RMA Automotive facility is strategically located in the same precinct as Ford Australia’s new parts distribution centre. This proximity facilitates close collaboration between engineers from Ford and RMA Automotive, ensuring that the F-150s meet the stringent ‘Built Ford Tough’ standards. The aim is to maintain the vehicle’s acclaimed quality, capability, and comfort, which have been hallmarks of the F-150 for 75 years.
Availability and Variants
The Ford F-150 XLT and LARIAT models are available in both short and long-wheelbase variants for Australian customers. They can be acquired through Ford’s nationwide dealer network, alongside the full Ford vehicle range.
As customer deliveries increase throughout November, the Ford F-150 is poised to significantly impact the Australian automotive sector. This launch symbolizes a commitment to delivering vehicles that meet Australian consumers’ diverse needs and preferences.
