A recall has just been announced for the Roadsafe Soft Shackles. The shackles themselves are fine, however on the warning label there has been a typographical error. The specific product in question is their 10mm, 9000kg spliced soft shackle rope.
The warning label contains the line ‘A standard tow ball or vehicle tie-down point is ‘now’ designed for this purpose and may result in the strap or vehicle component detaching from a vehicle and striking and seriously injuring or killing a person.’
The actual wording should be: ‘A standard tow ball or vehicle tie-down point is ‘not’ designed for this purpose and may result in the strap or vehicle component detaching from a vehicle and striking and seriously injuring or killing a person.’
As we all should know, tow balls and tie-down points should never be used for recovering any vehicle. The concern however is should a novice driver purchase this product and read the label, they are going to get some pretty bad advice. That is why this recall is rather crucial to be rectified. Roadsafe has confirmed they will replace any impacted shackles in the soft shackle recall, and can be contacted by phone on (03) 8687 1700 or via their website here.
