Hot off the press from issue #063 of the Mr 4X4 magazine, here’s just one of the yarns subscribers get access to. Let’s take a closer look at Mountain Culture Beer Co.
Let’s be honest for a minute. In the heat of summer, after a long day on the tracks, cracking a cold beverage or two with some good friends and family around a campfire is about as good as life gets. We’ve sampled more than a few brews in our time, from more than a few pubs. But when a new brewery kicked off right on our doorstep in the Blue Mountains, we knew we’d have to take a…erm… closer look, for research purposes of course.
Mountain Culture Beer Co have been crafting beers that resonate with the spirit of outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers. With a deep connection to the local community and landscape, Mountain Culture’s range of beers isn’t just about quenching thirst. It’s about embracing the culture of the outdoors. Their brews are a tribute to the adventurous, laid-back lifestyle that 4X4 enthusiasts and campers cherish, making them the perfect companion for those memorable evenings under the stars. While filming Season 16 we’ve partaken in a few of their drops and can proudly report, that these six are our go-to for any occasion.
ABSOLUTE WIZARDS
“Absolute Wizards” Double NEIPA, a collaboration between Mountain Culture and Bottle Logic, is a standout brew. Crafted during a trip to Anaheim, this beer is a blend of international brewing finesse and Aussie flair. It’s described as one of the thickest, creamiest New England IPAs they’ve brewed. Loaded with Vic Secret, BRU-1, and Mosaic hops, it offers a tropical flavour profile with highlights of ripe pineapples and green mangoes. At 8.7% ABV, it’s a beer that promises a full-bodied experience, perfect for sharing stories around the campfire.
BACK TO CALI
“Back to Cali” West Coast IPA by Mountain Culture is a real winner with the crew. It’s a classic fresh hop West Coast IPA, nailing the traditional hoppy profile with pine and resin notes, plus a hit of bright citrus. It’s spot-on for a session around the fire, offering that perfect balance of bitterness and hoppy goodness. With a 7.6% ABV, it’s the kind of beer that makes you nod in appreciation after each sip. This one’s brewed for the purists who know a quality IPA when they taste it.
BE KIND REWIND
“Be Kind Rewind” DDH IPA is a real ripper. It’s like a tropical holiday in a can with its orange, guava, and passionfruit zing. This brew’s got a history, being inspired by the brewery’s past as a video store, adding a bit of nostalgia to every sip. We’re loving its smooth, hazy vibe, and at 7.3% ABV, it’s just the ticket for a top-notch brew around the campfire. It’s not just a beer, it’s a throwback to the good old days with a modern twist.
CULT IPA
The Cult IPA from Mountain Culture is a solid New England IPA that’s winning over beer enthusiasts with its bold, tropical fruit notes and pillowy body. Described as enchanting enough to make you consider joining a drum circle with a ponytail, it’s a brew that stands out. With a moderate 6.2% ABV, it’s perfect for those sessions around the campfire, combining flavour with a laid-back vibe. It’s a favourite among customers, appreciated for its unique hazy character and refreshing taste.
LAGER
Mountain Culture’s Lager is the real deal for a no-fuss, crisp beer. It’s all about a clean, refreshing taste that cuts through the dust after a day on the trails. With a 4.6% ABV, it’s easy-going and ideal for a long session around the camp. It’s the kind of straightforward, honest lager that you’d want by your side as you spin yarns and chill out. You might need to wrangle them off Patski though, he’s been known to hoard them all to himself.
STATUS QUO PALE ALE
Status Quo Pale Ale is a top-notch New England Pale Ale that’s got the beer community buzzing. Voted Australia’s #1 beer in GABS Hottest 100 of 2022, it’s a juicy delight made for hop lovers. With massive late and dry hop additions, it delivers a full flavour that’s more tropical than a Hawaiian ukulele orchestra. At a friendly 5.2% ABV, it’s the ideal beer to enjoy around the campfire. It offers a smooth, hoppy taste that makes it the go to for most of the Mr4X4 crew.
