Each week, for 8 episodes, we’ve fed you bite-sized hints to get you excited for your weekly Sunday arvo watch. We now find ourselves awaiting episode 8 of season 15’s epic adventure. Can you believe it?! It’s simply flown by. Our very last episode means one last sneak peek. Buckle up and get ready to see the best of what Western Australia has to offer.
Western Australia: the bombshell
You may have heard the phrase “Melbourne is Sydney’s ugly little sister.” Adding to that family, Western Australia has got to be Australia’s bombshell trophy wife. The scenes of this part of the country are truly awe-inspiring and not to be experienced anywhere else.
New spots for your adventure bucket list
This episode sees Pat in the south-west corner of Western Australia. You can expect to see beaches, dunes, tracks, breweries and beach walks that you’ve likely never heard of before, which is the whole aim of the show. Pat Callinan’s 4X4 Adventures aims to introduce Aussies to hidden gems of the country that aren’t typically the norm to visit. After all, no one likes a gatekeeper. You’ll need to grab a pen and paper to jot down some of these awesome new spots that have just been waiting to be added to your bucket list.
The vehicles and the locations
Pat’s behind the wheel of the Ranger V6 Sport and Josh Leonard is again by his side in the V6 Everest Sport. This adventure kicks off near Foster Beach, close to Bremer Bay. The boys then head to Dillons Beach in Bremer Bay, before tackling Porongurup Granite Skywalk, Bornholm Beach, the Bicentennial Tree near Pemberton and finally the Yeagarup Dunes.
More sand driving
When hitting Foster Beach, Pat makes sure to activate ‘sand mode’. There’s an immediate change in the vehicle that can be felt once activated. As we are all well aware, sand is soft, so the throttle modulation is changed to give you more grunt at the pedal. It helps to make the vehicle feel more sprightly, to keep you above the soft sand and avoid sinking in.
The drone had a bad day
The gushing winds picked up and the $13,000 drone, capable of 88km per hour, was quickly swept up right in front of our eyes. You know, the one that helps us capture those epic, panoramic shots that grace your screen flying over the stunning locations Pat visits each season. Naturally, this valuable piece of equipment needed to be recovered quickly. Our drone pilot Tommy landed it in the sand, while the crew scurried to find it! Oopsies.
Looking for a local drop?
Do we ever need a reason to stop and enjoy a cold one? We’re sure you don’t need convincing, so what this episode will give you is some inspiration to visit Bremer Bay Brewing Company for a local drop. Zane, owner of Bremer Bay Brewing Company, found his inspiration to start a brewery while in Alaska in his early 20’s. He kicked off Bremer Bay Brewing Company right before the COVID lockdown. However, the locals rallied around him and the business is now booming. A happy ending all ’round.
You’ll find 11 beers on tap, vodka and gin, all stripped of any preservatives. That makes it healthy right? At least a little bit guilt-free, I reckon.
Granite Skywalk
Pat and Josh began their ascent in search of the incredible lookout Pat had heard whispers about on the grapevine. The track starts off through lush greenery, and as you walk on, is replaced by majestic granite boulders, looking like they could roll right off the mountain! Ain’t Mother Nature just the most talented sculptor?! She’s an artist alright.
After reaching Castle Rock Lookout, Pat and Josh continued onto a scramble that had them climb a rock-solid ladder as their final ascent to Granite Skywalk. What you’ll receive in return for your climb to the top is stunning views that extend all the way out to the coast. Pat’s advice for those that fear heights: “If you’re on the edge, just do it. You’re not going to be disappointed”. And isn’t that a great quote to live by? May even get that one tatted on me. Copyright credit to Patski, of course.
Now as much as I want to keep feeding you sneak peek snippets of the episode, I’m afraid I’m going tight lipped from now on. There are tonnes of other nuggets of gold waiting for you in this episode. I guess you’ll just have to tune into TEN this Sunday at 3pm!
