With the extreme fire weather in Victoria today and tomorrow Parks Victoria have closed a number of recreation areas and parks due to safety concerns. Check local closures before you head out here.
Current park closures
The following parks have been impacted due to the current fire weather:
- Dandenong Ranges National Park
Areas include: One Tree Hill, Doongalla, Valley, Eagles Nest, Sherbrooke and O’Donohues picnic grounds, Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground (including 1000 Steps) and Kalorama Park. Grants Picnic Ground south end is closed but the bird feeding, souvenir shop, restaurant and the rest of the picnic ground will be open. - Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden (formerly National Rhododendron Gardens)
- Dandenong Ranges gardens including: Alfred Nicholas Gardens, Pirianda Garden, George Tindale Garden
- Organ Pipes National Park
- Yellowgum Recreation Area (including Blue Lake) at Plenty Gorge Park
- RJ Hamer Aboretum
- Sassafrass Creek NCR
- Silvan Reservoir Park
- Norman Reserve, Jumping Creek Reserve and Koornong Reserve at Warrandyte State Park.
- William Ricketts Sanctuary
- Woodlands Historic Park
Croajingolong National Park
Currently Croajingolong National Park has some closures due to a bush fire currently burning within the park. The fire is contained at this point however the following areas remain closed: Tito Track, Mueller Jeep Track, Mueller Link Track, Cicada Trail, Mt Everard Track and Humphrey’s Track.
These areas within Croajingolong remain open for pre-existing bookings:
- Point Hicks Lightstation, Thurra River campground, Mueller Inlet campground,
- Wingan Inlet campground,
- Wilderness Coast Walk including Clinton Rocks and Gale Hill

Visitors of all parks in Victoria can stay informed by tuning in to local ABC radio, via the Victorian Emergency website, and the VicEmergency App for fire weather warnings.
Should you be caught in a fire affected area, leave as soon as practicable, stay with your vehicle, and do not drive through fire or smoke.
