Exploring the Fraser Coast is like stepping into a natural wonderland. From the lush rainforests and pristine lakes to the expansive sandy beaches and tracks. This region of Queensland offers some of the most breathtaking sights in Australia. With cameras in hand and tyre pressures dropped Pat and the crew took a deep dive into this spectacular area. They’re gathering memories and experiences that will stay with them forever.
Their journey began with a visit to Burrum Heads. A charming seaside town boasting three caravan parks and three boat ramps, perfect for both locals and visitors. Life here revolves around the waterfront, offering a serene and relaxed atmosphere. Just 25 kays away lies the bustling community of Harvey Bay, known as the gateway town for tourists heading to K’Gari, or Fraser Island as it was once known. The town is equipped with fantastic facilities, including scenic boardwalks, coastal sports grounds, and the council-run WetSide Water Park, which is absolutely free to the public.
“this campsite offers a tranquil contrast to the wild campsites on K’Gar”
Waking up the next morning at Hedley Camp was an absolute delight. Situated on Kauri Creek, this campsite offers a tranquil contrast to the wild campsites on K’Gari. The clear waters, filtered by surrounding mangroves, create a serene environment perfect for relaxation and exploration. The Great Sandy Strait Marine Park, with its rich variety of fish and bird life, adds to the natural beauty of this location.
Continuing their journey, Pat and the crew travelled through the Tuan State Forest to the quaint town of Tinnanbar. This area, with its boat ramps leading to wide-open sand flats, offers stunning views and endless opportunities for exploration. It’s amazing how every trip to K’Gari and its surroundings presents a new adventure, always revealing hidden gems and new experiences.
“These hidden jewels are absolutely worth the journey.”
K’Gari itself never fails to amaze. Each visit uncovers different facets of its beauty, and this time was no exception. From discovering new places to experiencing the Fraser Coast Mainland, the adventure never ends. The region is filled with spots that many might drive past, it’s worth taking the time to explore places like Wongi Waterholes, Burrum Heads, and Tinnanbar.
