New Engine Lineup For 2027 Ranger

Ford hasn’t officially announced its 2027 Ranger and Everest line-ups yet, but preliminary details have started appearing online, and there are some interesting changes potentially heading our way.

Information based on Redbook listings, suggests the MY27 Ranger range could see the return of four-cylinder diesel power to the XLT and Wildtrak, while the Ranger Tremor appears set to make way for a new Wildtrak X.

Until Ford Australia confirms the changes, the details should be treated as preliminary. But if the listings prove accurate, there are a few things worth paying attention to.

A cheaper way into Ranger XLT and Wildtrak

One of the biggest changes appears to be the return of four-cylinder diesel options in two of the Ranger’s most popular grades.

The Ranger XLT dual-cab 4X4 is listed with the 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel at $61,490 before on-road costs. That’s $6500 below the listed $67,990 price of the V6.

The same thing appears to be happening with Wildtrak. The four-cylinder model is listed at $68,590, while the 3.0-litre V6 remains at $75,090.

That creates a much clearer choice for buyers.

If outright performance, towing grunt and relaxed highway driving sit high on the priority list, the V6 will continue to have plenty of appeal. But a $6500 saving is significant, particularly for buyers planning to spend that money on suspension, tyres, touring gear or a canopy.

The new 2.0-litre option is the single-turbo engine already being rolled out across other Ranger and Everest variants, following the departure of the previous bi-turbo diesel.

Is Wildtrak X replacing Ranger Tremor?

Perhaps the more interesting news for 4X4ers is what appears to be happening further up the range. The Ranger Tremor isn’t listed in the preliminary MY27 line-up. In its place sits a familiar badge: Wildtrak X. The proposed Wildtrak X is listed at $77,990 before on-roads, putting it $2900 above the current Tremor and $2900 above the standard Wildtrak V6.

More importantly, it’s listed with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel.

Previous Wildtrak X models sold here used four-cylinder diesel power, so a V6 version would make the package considerably more interesting for touring buyers.

Exactly what Australia will get remains unconfirmed, although the Wildtrak X already sold overseas gives us some clues. Previous versions of the formula have focused heavily on off-road touring, with equipment such as Bilstein dampers, all-terrain tyres, additional underbody protection and auxiliary lighting.

That places the Wildtrak X in an interesting position.

A Wildtrak already gives you plenty of touring comfort and technology. The Raptor takes things significantly further toward high-performance off-road driving. A V6 Wildtrak X could potentially sit somewhere between the two, aimed more directly at buyers who want a capable factory touring setup without going all the way to a Raptor.

Everest Tremor looks set to stay

While the Ranger Tremor appears absent from the preliminary MY27 list, the Everest Tremor looks set to continue. It remains listed with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel at $79,990 before on-road costs, sitting between the Everest Sport and Platinum.

That makes sense given the Tremor’s position as the more off-road-focused Everest in the range, and it gives buyers looking for a family touring wagon a different option to the more luxury-focused Platinum.

Most other Ranger and Everest pricing appears largely unchanged, with only minor movements elsewhere in the range.

What does it mean for buyers?

If these changes are confirmed, the biggest story may simply be that Ford is giving Ranger buyers more choice. The cheaper four-cylinder XLT and Wildtrak models could appeal to buyers who want the equipment level without necessarily wanting the V6, while the continued availability of the six-cylinder engine keeps the more powerful option on the table.

The possible return of Wildtrak X is arguably even more interesting. If Ford combines the V6 with the off-road suspension and touring-focused hardware traditionally associated with Wildtrak X, it could become one of the more appealing factory Ranger packages for Australian 4X4ers.

For now, however, none of this has been formally announced by Ford Australia.

An official MY27 Ranger and Everest announcement is expected before the updated models arrive in Australian showrooms, at which point we’ll know exactly how the new range stacks up.
