When you’re out in the great outdoors, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a hearty meal by the campfire. This steak sanga is ideal for camping for several reasons. Firstly, it’s incredibly filling, perfect after a long day of running winch rope and digging out Exitrax. The combination of rich cheeses and succulent steak ensures a protein-packed meal that will satisfy any appetite. Secondly, it’s simple to prepare with minimal cooking equipment and doesn’t take long to cook, which means more time spent enjoying the campsite and less time cooking. Lastly, the ingredients are robust and easy to transport without the risk of spoiling too quickly, which is essential for any camping trip.

What to load into the Engel

To make the ultimate steak sanga, you’ll need to grab a few key ingredients buried in the Engel. Here’s what to put on your shopping list:

– Turkish bread or rolls

– Philadelphia cream cheese (1 tablespoon per sandwich)

– Mersey Valley vintage cheese or Gorgonzola (1 tablespoon crumbled per sandwich)

– Pickles and pickled jalapenos (1/2 cup diced combined)

– White onion (1/2 diced)

– Fire-roasted pickled red peppers

– Scotch fillet steak (200g per sandwich)

– Butter (for frying)

– Creamy buffalo sauce

Required Camp Cooking Equipment

Make sure you pack the following equipment to cook up this tasty meal:

– Portable grill or campfire grill grate

– Frying pan (preferably cast iron for even heating)

– Knife and cutting board for chopping

– Spatula for flipping the steak

– Spoon or small spatula for spreading the cheeses and sauce

– Aluminium foil (optional, for easier cleanup)

How to cook up a storm

1. Prep Your Ingredients: Start by dicing your pickles, pickled jalapenos, and white onion. Slice your fire-roasted pickled red peppers into strips. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Bread: Lightly toast the Turkish bread or rolls on the grill or over the campfire. Spread a tablespoon of Philadelphia cream cheese on each piece, followed by a crumble of Mersey Valley vintage cheese or Gorgonzola.

3. Cook the Steak: Heat a small amount of butter in your frying pan over the grill. Cook the 200g scotch fillet steak to your preference. If you like a nice crust, make sure the pan is hot before adding the steak. Once cooked, place the steak onto the cheesy bread.

4. Assemble the Sandwich: Layer on your diced pickles and jalapenos, sprinkle with diced onions, and add the roasted pepper strips. Drizzle or generously spread creamy buffalo sauce over the top to cap off this flavour-packed sandwich.

5. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the sandwich a minute or two for the flavours to meld together under the warmth of the steak, then dive in and enjoy your gourmet campfire creation!

This Ultimate Campfire Steak Sandwich is not just a meal; it’s an experience. Each bite combines creamy, cheesy goodness with the robust flavours of seasoned steak and tangy pickles and jalapenos, all sandwiched between warm, toasty bread. It’s the perfect reward for a day spent on the tracks and will undoubtedly be a highlight of your camping trip. So next time you’re packing up for the wilderness, remember to throw these ingredients into your Engel. Your taste buds will thank you!
