The recently launched Mazda BT-50 has been awarded a five-star ANCAP rating after testing for pedestrian safety.

As expected, the brand-new Mazda BT-50 has been awarded a five-star ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Program) safety rating after pedestrian testing.

ANCAP didn’t need to crash test the new BT-50 to award it with five stars as it’s essentially the same vehicle as the recently tested Isuzu D-MAX, which the crash-safety body tested last month. It did, however, need to test for pedestrian safety due to the BT-50’s unique front-end styling and bonnet profile.

“As the latest release into the high-selling Utilities segment, the Mazda BT-50 provides a comprehensive safety offering to both fleet and private buyers,” ANCAP’s Rhianne Robson said.

“This top rating underscores the importance placed on safety by Mazda, with all models in its range carrying a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

“It is reassuring to see the safety of Mazda customers and other road users being prioritised regardless of market segment.”

All models in the new Mazda BT-50 line-up are equipped with the following comprehensive safety features: Adaptive Cruise Control (automatic models), Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), eight SRS Airbags (driver, front passenger, side, curtain, driver’s knee and driver’s far-side), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane-keep Assist (LAS, automatic models), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Roll Over Protection (ROP) and Traction Control System (TCS).

According to Mazda, the five-star ANCAP safety rating will also be applied upcoming Freestyle and Single Cab models.

“For Brand-New Mazda BT-50, safety was always our top priority, as it is with any model Mazda brings to market,” Mazda Australia MD Vinesh Bhindi said.

“With its impressive suite of active and passive safety equipment, Brand-New BT-50 is at the forefront of safety technology, and this is strongly validated by ANCAP’s five-star rating.”
