Holden Special Vehicles has confirmed the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will go on-sale here in March, ending 12 months of speculation.

In the same week that General Motors announced it was shelving Holden, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has confirmed the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will go on-sale here in March.

In good news for prospective buyers, HSV said in a statement that it “had achieved full volume certification for the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in Australia and New Zealand.” This follows the release here in 2018 of the Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty variant.

The first Silverado 1500 to go on-sale will be the LTZ Premium Edition, which HSV claims will “set the category benchmarks for power, technology, and safety.” The LTZ variant gets a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine which provides 313kW of power and 624Nm of torque. This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

For those who tow, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 matches similar offerings from Ram with a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 4500kg when using a 70mm ball. Maximum payload for the bed is 712kg and the Silverado 1500 has a GCM (Gross Combined Mass) of 7160kg. The Silverado also gets a raft of towing assist features like, Tow/Haul mode, Trailer Swap Control and Hills Start Assist. If you get the Advanced Trailering Package you get even more like, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Theft Alert and In-Vehicle Advanced Trailering System.

Off-road wise the Silverado 1500 will come with a two-speed transfer case, as well as a heavy-duty locking rear differential. The Silverado 1500 also comes with a Drive Mode Selector, which allows you to select different drive modes based on the terrain you’re driving, this adjusts how the transmission shifts, throttle response, and traction control systems. The four options are: Tour, Sport, Tow/Haul, which aids when towing and Off-road.

Recommended retail pricing is yet to be confirmed, but stay tuned. We’ll update this article when we know pricing and, of course, when we’ve got a review.
