Although the 2014 Jeep Cherokee may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, Jeep is following on with their winning formula, facelifting and up-speccing the successful Grand Cherokee.
Aside from the visual cues, the new Grand Cherokee comes with the new ‘EcoDiesel’, a 3.0 V6 that has a claimed consumption of as good as 7.8l/100km. This is teamed up with a new 8-speed transmission, complete with paddle wheels for full control without your hands leaving the steering wheel. This is a big improvement itself, over the 5-speed in the current model.
Along with the diesel, expect some brawny petrol V8 options like the Hemi and SRT8, and a more conservative V6 petrol. Inside, the Jeep gets a fresh remodel as well. The list of options will be as long as your arm, and base prices will be competitive.
The Jeep runs on ‘Quadra-lift’ suspension, adjustable airbags at each corner not unlike the Land Rover Discovery setup. The suspension can be lowered for highway driving, lowered even more for loading/unloading and passenger accessibility, and raised for off-road work.
Once again like the Disco, Jeep’s ‘Selec-Terrain’ allows the driver to customise the vehicle’s off-road performance for different terrains: Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, and Auto are there to choose from.
