When Aussies think of crossing the country, they typically always think of the Nullarbor. An iconic stretch of bitumen that runs from east to west, but there is another way. A more adventurous way that will provide even more beautiful scenes than you’d get when sticking to the bitumen. It is, of course, the Great Australian Bight. In episode 6, join us for episode one of this two-parter, as we take this incredible part of Australia head on. To take him there he’s driving the new V6 Ford Everest. This Great Australian Bight adventure kicks off in Ceduna. It goes on to the Davenport Dunes, followed by Penong, Fowlers Bay, Dingo Beach and Head of Bight. Then they get to Nullarbor, duck down into the Murrawijinie Caves and visit the Bunda Cliffs before finishing off near Eucla.
We see the vehicles first hit Davenport Creek, a 45 minute run out from Ceduna. To give you an idea of how stunning this spot is. Our articulate writer Josh Leonard found himself utterly lost for words as they drove along the sand. With no other tyre treads in the sand, it looked as if Josh and Pat were pioneering their way as the first drivers to ever hit this gorgeous spot. With the bright sun blazing above, Josh and Pat both wore TONIC Eyewear. It’s made for wheelers, polarised to ensure drivers can navigate on sand dunes.
At the Wahgunyah Conservation Park, Pat and Josh drove alongside the well-known Dingo fence. It’s been there over 100 years and happens to be the longest fence in the entire world. It runs over 5400 kilometres and stretches from the Darling Downs in Queensland, down to South Australia and terminates on the coastline near Fowlers Bay. It does as the name suggests, keeps dingos on one side of the fence, away from Aussie livestock. With a livestock industry worth over 4.3 billion dollars in South Australia, you can understand why the fence serves an important purpose.
