We all know Camps Australia Wide do a great book full of cheap and free campsites around Australia. It’s so successful in fact, it’s going into its seventh edition. But did you know they also make an app for the iPad and iPhone?
The main strength of Camps Australia Wide, regardless of medium, is their huge database. Consisting of over 3,900 verified and visited sites right across Australia, the database is a huge one, and is deafeningly useful for those long trips on the road. Even better, streamlined subscription offers mean your database can stay up to date when you need it most.
This app makes use of the iPad technology very well. After taking a few minutes to get your bearings, you will find yourself scooting around the continent, clicking here and there, and picking through the plethora of information available. Clicking through to each campsite gives you more information; things like facilities, map references, GPS co-ordinates, addresses and even user-generated reviews. The bottom right of this page has Google maps going, allowing you to ask for directions with the simple push of a button.
Are you a bit picky with your sites? don’t worry, this app has a total of 29 criteria for you to check against and filter as you search any given area around Australia. Maps are also available offline, meaning you aren’t at the mercy of your service provider when you are beating a hasty retreat from civilisation. Furthermore, MetroView works within the app, giving you complete turn-by-turn functionality and voice directions to your campsite of choice. Too easy!
The app retails for $51.99, but has the potential of saving you a swagload of money when you think about it. Rather than paying around $30 per night at your average caravan park, use this app to locate a close free or cheaper camping area and make a big saving!
