It was an eventful weekend at Teewah Beach, where police made multiple arrests and 80 campers were forced to pack up and leave. Among the charges were infringements for defective vehicles, arrests for public nuisance, and drink driving charges. What went down at Teewah Beach? Read on to find out.
What started the Teewah Beach blitz?
Police were conducting patrols of Teewah Beach on October 14 when they spotted 4WDs driving recklessly on the beachfront. The driver, a 23-year-old male from Loganlea was doing doughnuts right by people camping. Not surprising, considering his Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) was 0.102%
What are the consequences?
“Well, well, well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions…” The 23-year-old male driver was charged with driving without due care and attention. Of course, with that BAC level he was also charged with mid-range drink driving. The driver will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 14.
The Teewah Beach blitz continued
It was a busy weekend at Teewah Beach that saw officers attend three crashes and charge 3 people with drink driving. Four people were arrested for public nuisance and 3 arrested for obstructing police. 17 traffic infringement notices (TINs) were issued, a noise direction was given to a group and 2 infringement notices were given for defective vehicles. With the assistance of National Parks and Wildlife Service rangers, police directed 40 vehicles and 80 ‘beach doof’ campers to pack up and leave. Police and QPWS remained in the area until late Saturday.
Do the right thing so we can have nice things
There’s always a group of people who ruin it for the rest. Cue the “this is why we can’t have nice things” statement. Police have stated they will continue to be out in force patrolling. This means they’ll be at local beaches in the coming weeks. A warning has been communicated that dangerous and antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.
