Respected Australia-wide training organisation, Getabout Training Services, is celebrating 20 years of being in business. Coming from humble beginnings, Getabout is a great example of a dedicated family business, growing slowly into a force to be reckoned with.

Getabout’s driving force is John and Julie Eggenhuizen, who have grown a one-time tiny business into one of the biggest and most-respected 4WD and towing training company in Australia, with a huge variety of courses available right around Australia.

Getabout 4WD Training Courses can teach you basic introduction courses, all the way up to advanced driving and recovery techniques.
Getabout 4WD Training Courses can teach you basic introduction courses, all the way up to advanced driving and recovery techniques.

For a while, a large part of the Getabout business was tours, from day trips to desert crossings. Nowadays, there isnt much they don’t do: First Aid, towing and off-road towing, chainsaw operation, off-road driving and recovery, all the way from basic to advanced is on the menu. Getabout do all of this, plus much, much more. Their website also has a well-stocked (and priced) shop with tailored recovery gear, using the good Australian-made Just Straps stuff on their website.

For me, the best thing about Getabout’s 4WD training and other courses is that their courses are run by experienced 4WDers and great educators. Pat Callinan Media are proud to use Getabout as their choice of trainer, with lots of our staff doing courses out at their facility in Gemalong. I can personally vouch for the off-road towing course, which took me from dunce to decent with a trailer. No more awkward moments at the tip! The First Aid course is another one we have used here, which give you great skills and insights that you hopefully never have to use.

John and Julie are still at the heart of Getabout, joined by a passionate knowledgable team of trainers and instructors. They are now proudly joined by their son Carl, showing how much of a passionate family business it is.
