The new premium range from Travelander has finally arrived! After two years of intense research and development, the upgraded tray-back campers and camper trailer range provides even more ease and comfort than the standard models. The new lineup includes a single cab tray-back camper, double cab tray-back camper and off road hard-floor camper trailer.
Developed during a client trip through the Simpson Desert, the new models evolved from customer feedback in one of the harshest environments in Australia. The goal was to create a premium range that offered a smarter looking kitchen, more storage, air-con and heating, a better hot water shower, but was also roomier and lighter.
A few of the major changes across the new premium range include a step-out shower cubical with hot water positioned on the passenger side so bathers can walk straight inside the camper, a revamped kitchen with external/ internal access to cooking and the pantry, and a larger fridge with no gas bottles necessary, as diesel is used to run the cabin and water heater, and the portable stovetop runs on metho.
“We decided that gas bottles were not only dangerous and heavy, but by using diesel and metho to heat and cook, it was also a lot less of a hassle,” explained creator and owner Darren Hoger.
The other notable changes include fiberglass internal/ external drawers, which are also lighter and allow for more storage space. The water tank position has also been changed and its size increased. The upgraded electrics include a REDARC battery management system, more 12v outlets, a 600-watt inverter and an independent deep cycle battery (2 x 120amp) and lithium is also an option.
Darren and Julia Hoger, native Queenslanders and outdoor enthusiasts, launched Travelander 13 years ago from a farm shed with a dirt floor on the Sunshine Coast. Darren’s background in auto body engineering combined with Julia’s advertising experience was a match made in heaven. They’ve gone from building four models a year to over 130, and from a staff of two to over fifteen, with a nationwide network of dealers.
Since launching the new range of tray-backs and trailers this year, Travelander has also pulled the manufacturing of all their products back from China to Australia. It was a huge decision and one that they struggled over, but are ultimately happy to have made.
“It made better business sense,” explained Darren. “It gives us more control over the manufacturing process and I don’t have to go to China three to four times a year,” he laughed. “Plus we want our customers to have an Aussie-made product and it gives us the opportunity to provide more local jobs.”
Julia and Darren, always looking for the next challenge, decided to expand their transportation company last year. Known as Utrans, they operate a nationwide network to aid the caravan and camping industry manufacturers. They also sell some of the best-designed canvas swags on the market under the moniker Swag-It.
