We’re pretty excited about the 2019 Suzuki Jimny. Even though you’re flat-out fitting a packed lunch inside, there is something very special about the little Japanese off-roader. We originally thought it was due in 2018, but others are now saying it might take a bit longer.
When we drove the current Jimny a little while ago, we found out that few cars can give you such a big, authentic grin. It’s small, nimble and immersing to drive, especially compared to, well, anything else on sale these days.
Current laws mean Suzuki can’t sell more than 100 Jimnys a month, but a new model on the way means it’s going to be back in full-time action. It’s an all-new model, but it looks like they’re keeping much of what makes the Jimny so unique. It’s staying small, keeping live axles, and is getting even boxier compared to the current model.
Check out the video below, which we picked up via pure veneno on Youtube. It’s only on-road driving unfortunately, but you can still get a good idea of what coming with the new 2019 Suzuki Jimny. You can see a very familiar suspension setup, and if we had to guess, we’d say the engine isn’t turbocharged. There looks to be great ground clearance with wheels wedged right at each corner, giving you bugger-all overhang to contend with.

What do you reckon? Are you keen to see this little pocket battleship on the tracks?
