Nissan in the US have just released some teaser images of their upcoming Armada Mountain Patrol concept, based around the full-size v8-powered SUV – the Y62 Armada.
Known Down Under as the Patrol, the Nissan Armada Mountain Patrol concept is still ten days away from debut at the 2018 Overland Expo West in Arizona on May 18. Nissan has gone to social media in the US and asked punters to throw ideas in the ring of what the Mountain Patrol should look like. They’ve asked for suggestions on the tyres, wrap, and roof topper with fans using the hashtag #MountainPatrol.
Despite offering up the teaser photos, full details will be available come the expo, however there’s a fair amount to be gleaned from teasers. At this stage we can see there will be a reasonably aggressive rear bar with dual tyre and jerry can swing-aways, as well as a 270-degree awning, and a roof-top tent. The wheels we’re not entirely sure on the robustness for serious off-road duties, however the Nitto tyres certainly look the part, despite the lower profile, and have been paired up with 4-wheel flares to keep them in the guards.
Around to the front and you can see a set of ARB Intensity spotlights on the bar, as well as a Rhino Rack up top. This houses the roof-topper and quite possibly the angriest light bar we’ve ever seen! As you’d expect a snorkel and sliders make an appearance, however we’re not entirely sure about the A-pillar “Jeep-esque” spotlights, nor what specifically the bonnet scoop means to achieve?
Overall some of the mods look good, while others will be there to serve a purpose. Despite being a concept, it’s nice to see a manufacturer start to think more towards an off-roading spec and we can only hope Nissan take some of these ‘conceptual ideas’ and offer up some factory accessories or a whole “trim level” specifically aimed at off-road ability.
