The 2017 Mitsubishi Triton range is getting a big list of changes, in a bid to make the value-packed ute even more competitive. The changes are all to do with kit and specification; with the full Triton range benefitting from some extra additions.
One area that has been very fast-moving for this segment is no doubt the Infotainment unit. These days, they’re colour, touchscreen, easy to use and very powerful. Mitsubishi’s GLS and Exceed Tritons will get the ‘Smartphone Display Audio’ 7″ colour touchscreen infotainment unit, sporting the latest-and-greatest in smartphone connectivity: Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These two models also get a ‘dark chrome’ finish, a leather-clad steering wheel and ‘platform style’ side steps.
Towards the lower end of the spec-spectrum, a reversing camera has been made standard on all style-side utes, the GLX now sports a ‘rear step bumper’, and all-terrain tyres are standard on GLX and GLX+ models. The all-terrain tyres look to be a Bridgestone Dueler A/T D693 in a 245/70 R16 flavour which will give better off-road performance compared to the normal highway-spec OE tyre. GLX model also gets Mitsubishi’s 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display, which used to find it’s home in the dash of the GLS model (before it updated).
“With All-Terrain tyres, reversing camera and rear step bumper now available on GLX 4×4 manual at $37,000 recommended retail, the 2017 Triton range continues to offer compelling value for savvy light commercial buyers,” MMAL Executive Director of Marketing Tony Principe said. And we tend to agree; the Triton does represent very solid value in the lower specification ranks, especially when you add in the five year warranty.

Including a diff lock on the GLS would have been a welcome addition.
All the things they can add but never a bigger motor, why Not!?
Worst car I’ve ever had. you can polish a turd but it will always be a turd
Why is it you can buy an iPad with massive features and functions including wifi, storage, numerous apps, 10 inch screen etc etc etc for around $500 yet when it comes to cars and their dash displays we are expected to get super excited about sub standard 7 inch screens with minimal features, no storage and a fraction of capability??
I don’t get it!
It’s like stepping into a different dimension, a world where everyone just accepts the dash and features of a car will always be limited to basic, no frills displays because car makers will sacrifice everything to save a hundred dollars. It would cost them an extra what $50 or $150 to design an iPad into the dash but they don’t, won’t or can’t because it effects their margins. Stop, being tight fisted guys, go all out for once.
How about they up spec the engine
How about they up spec the engine
How about 3 baby seat mounts in the back seat instead of 2! All the opposition have 3. They are a work/family yet aren’t they??

Albany Western Australia. Currently own the 2016 Triton MQ GLX Manual Double Cab. With OL Bar, Dual battery and Standard Canopy the vehicle came in at just under $40000 on the road. Took delivery in March 2016. Since then have clocked up 25000 Klm’s by way of South Australia Eyre Peninsula, up to the Red Centre and to the Top End and across to Broome and back to Albany via Pilbara, all the while towing a 16ft Pop Top Van. The car is often used to commute to Perth and back. Recently fitted a Secondary Fuel Manager Filter. I could not be happier with this 4×4. Faultless apart from the high beam being practically useless. Smooth and quiet, reasonably comfortable. Gonna keep it. Fantastic Value for money. Thank you Mitsubishi Australia.

My Son has a 2011 model GLX Triton 4×4 Club Cab Tray Back. It’s not a bad Ute, but the 2.5D has an awful flat spot and poor gearing ratio’s [suffers with a 5 Spd manual].
Both the interior upholstery and external paint quality leave a bit to be desired also.
they have done nothing to correct the huge rear overhang behind the back axle to the towball and reno have bought 34 % of mitshi now so wont be long and the ute will be a bitza and no longer 100% genuine the next model is suppose to have a navara platform under it
Rubbish motor vehicle, fitted a steel bullbar to a My16 GLX+Model and it now rides on the bump stops!
I was told that the maximum load on the front was 39 kg by the dealer and given a photo of the genuine alloy bullbar box with mass indicated on the box as proof. Could not fit a couple of average size blokes in the front seat travelling off road if that was for real. Absolute Crap as a 4×4 , shocking after sales support and zero off road capability. Choose another vehicle.
I have an MQ dual cab, purchased in November 2015. Driven 50000km since then, mostly on sealed roads and find it very nice to drive until you get to something a bit rougher. Drives like a pig on corrugated roads traveling at slow speeds. (Could be due to Mitsubishi shortening the wheel base just to get a better turning circle). The doors rattle like they’re going to fly open and with no one as a passanger, the passanger seat back tends to shake and hit the centre console. I ended up wedging the owners/service manual between the seat and console to stop the rattle. It does have a flat spot in the lower rev range and the service isn’t the best. Other than that, its not to bad for the price….

Owned two would not hesitate to buy a third. Sometimes the problem is the driver not the vehicle.
Its a pity we don’t make our own cars anymore in Australia, pretty much all 4×4 cab chassis are produced in places like Thailand, who knows maybe in the same factory, the after sales equipment market in Australia is the only way to improve performance and durability off road, no matter what manufacturer badges up these products. Maybe Mitsubishi are not quite so greedy in the pricing category. Is a basic workmate really worth paying an extra 20 grand $$$ ?
Bought a 2016 gls been a good car cheap to run and love that it has a timing chain ,just hoping its not like the navara yd25 motor with that crappy chain. Good family car rough ride but its softening over time.
Had my gls since April bargain, great on fuel , 14 & 12 year olds love the back seats . Toes my builders trailer no dramas . One thing I don’t know if it’s me and my bad back but the driver seat has no lower back support in pain after not all that big drives . Will need to get some sort of support . My wife’s Captiva seats are very comfortable… any one else had dramas with the front seats ?
